There are several options that control how the frequencies are generated.
The Type of Frequencies radio button has two settings:
- Value Sets: Tabulate Frequencies will use whatever value sets are defined for the items you select to determine the ranges that will be shown. If an item has one value set defined, Tabulate Frequencies will use it although it does not appear in the tree on the left. If more than one value set is defined, all value sets will be shown on the tree on the left and automatically selected when you select the item.
- Each Value Found: Tabulate Frequencies will show one row for each distinct value of the item that appears in the data. The values will not be grouped in any way. This is a good way to see a more "true" distribution of the data and is particularly helpful in identifying outliers.
If the Generate Statistics radio button is set to Yes, Tabulate Frequencies will automatically show the following statistics for each numeric item selected:
- Number of numeric categories
- Minimum
- Maximum
- Mean
- Standard deviation
- Variance
- Mode
- Median
If generating statistics, you will also see an option to show Percentiles. If you select a number from the list, the percentiles will be shown along with the statistics. For example, selecting 4 will show quartiles and selecting 10 will show deciles.
The sort options allow you to control the order in which each row of the frequency table appears. The Ascending checkbox controls whether the sort order is ascending or descending, and the sort types include the following options:
- Value Set: the rows will appear in the order that the values are defined in an item's value set.
- Code (default): the rows will appear in order sorted by each row's value.
- Label: the rows will appear in order sorted by each row's label as defined in an item's value set.
- Frequency: the rows will appear in order based on the frequency of each row's value.
The output format specifies what kind of
frequencies file is generated. The options include:
- Table (default): A CSPro tables file will be created. This file can be viewed in Table Viewer.
- Text: A text file will be created. This file can be viewed in Text Viewer or any text editor.
- HTML: A HTML file (with the extension .html) will be created. This file can be viewed in a web browser.
- Excel: An Excel file (with the extension .xlsx) will be created. This file can be viewed in Microsoft Excel.
- JSON: A JSON file (with the extension .json) will be created. This file can be processed by viewers or tools that handle JSON.
