displaying data from previous interview

I can see several solutions to my problem, but I'm not sure which one is the best, so I ask here what you would do:

Say that I go to the same respondents every third month to ask the same questions - about for instance employment/labour. I want to include the answer from last time I was there the following way:

"You said last time I was here, that you worked as a teacher. Is this still the case?"

If he says "yes", I'll just import the value from last interview, while if he says "no", I'll ask him what he does now.

What is the best way to do this? Do I need two dictionaries and two data files? Or is there any way I can look up in my current data file for existing cases?

We are doing the same thing as panel survey in Pakistan. For this purpose we are using external dictionary.
