Android 11 not compatible with CSEntry 7.6.2

Post by pradhanra01 »

Hi Gregory Martin,

We have a critical problem found on Android 11 device with CSEntry 7.6.2. It does not running pen file... In the previous version CSEntry 7.6.1 we do not have any issue. In Android 10 CSENtry 7.6.1 works fine.

Can you attach the application and problematic PEN? I will test the PEN, but would also like to publish my own PEN.

Hello!

I'm also having an issue with csentry and Android 11.

The problem is an error message that appears when I try to install an app. The error says "Error extracting application. The application package may be invalid or their may be insufficient disk space on your device".

I have like 5GB to spare on my phone, so that's not the issue.
I tried using a company phone (Samsung A20) that has Android 10 and I extracted, installed and ran the app without a problem, so my guess is that there's a problem with Android 11.

Not even the Simple CAPI example app is working. Here, at the lower part of the screen a message appears that says "/storage/emulated/0/csentry/Simple CAPI/Simple CAPI.pen: open failed: EPERM (Operation not permitted)".

I installed/ran the Simple CAPI application two ways on my Android 11 device:
  1. Published PEN and copied to device via USB
  2. Deployed to CSWeb and installed via "Add Application" option
Both installations/runs were successful for me. I built the application using CSPro 762 and ran it on my device with CSEntry 762.

For simplicity please confirm you built the PEN using CSPro 762, it doesn't run for you on CSEntry 762, send it to me. RIght now, I just want to see if I can reproduce the issue and narrow down the possible causes.

You can ignore my post above. I think we know what the issue is. This issue is likely due to CSEntry being built with a newer version of the SDK which includes additional security precautions.

To fix your issue:
  1. Uninstall CSEntry (hard pressing on the CSEntry icon)
  2. Remove the folder at /csentry (if it exists)
  3. Reinstall CSEntry 762
This should update the installation path and resolve the issue.

@pradhanra01 Try a new installation and if that doesn't fix it try clearing the backup data.

New installation
  1. Uninstall CSEntry
  2. Remove the folder at /csentry (if it exists)
  3. Reinstall CSEntry 762
Delete backup data
Settings > search "backup" > toggle off "Back up to Google Drive" > accept "Turn off & delete"

I also face this problem in several tablets and I try the method you suggested. But it did not work.

Hello Muhaliraza,

So you are having this problem:

"Error extracting application. The application package may be invalid or their may be insufficient disk space on your device".

And you are still having this problem, even after following the instructions from Aaron for the reinstall?

If so, could you either post your application and pen files (zipped) here so we can test it, or send it to us at cspro@lists.census.gov, should you not wish to make your programs public.

Thank you,
Sherrell
