Bluetooth synchronization - security of transmission?

Post by gdupuis »

Hello all,

We are preparing to use CSPro on Android devices for an upcoming survey and have received the following question from our data security oversight committee at CDC about the security of the Bluetooth syncconnect() feature we are planning to use.

"How we will ensure Bluetooth is secure? For example, does CSPro make use of BLE link-layer encryption?"

Does anyone have any information about how CSPro ensures the Bluetooth connections won't be intercepted? Or any information generally about the security of the transmissions?

Thank you!

CSPro uses the standard Bluetooth APIs on Android as described here. From what it says on that page Android encrypts the transmission but it does not give details. We are using regular Bluetooth not BLE.
