Trouble with tabulation of data

Hi,

I am putting together a survey which requires a numerical response between 1 to 5.
eg: Rate statement A from 1 to 5

I wish to make a table using the tabulation tool, which will allow me to find the average of the responses (out of 5) for a number of items.
At the moment I can get the average for one item/statement between cases; but I wish to do this for multiple statements/items within a single case.

Could someone kindly help with this.

Can you add a variable to your working storage dictionary and then in Tab Logic assign this variable to the sum of items, and then divide by the number of items? If you tabulate this variable, it will be the average response within a single case.
