Newbie Question: Cannot Import .dat file

Post by alysram1 »

Hi! I am fairly new to this program. I have a labor force survey data that came in a disc. The disc included a .dcf file which I already know is the dictionary file for the data set. It also came with a .dat file which I'm assuming is the actual data for the survey. I can open the .dcf file but when I try to open it with the .dat file, CSpro would not allow me. It said that the file is not supported. How can I open this file in the program? Can someone please help me? Thanks!

It depends on what you want to do with the data in your data file. If you want to create frequency distributions open the dictionary (.dcf) in the Tabulate Frequencies tool, if you want to create cross tabulations open CSPro and create a new cross tabulation application using the dictionary, if you want to export the data to another package use the Export Data tool and open the dictionary.
