Exporting data to STATA

Post by lollipop »

This is my first time using CSPro and I am trying to export my data to STATA.
I have followed the instructions and have created 3 export files: .dat, .dcf, .do

Please can someone explain how I transform into a .dta file? Or do I need to do something else in order to view data in STATA 13??

Any help greatly appreciated...

The .do file is a set of Stata commands that will import your data. You need to execute the .do file in Stata.

Thank you- much appreciated. V simple question I know but so new to this.

One more query: when I run do file STATA says 'long invalid varname' - I'm assuming one of my items names is too long. I have one that is 9 characters (I think 8 is the max). Is there a way to modify the item name in CSpro without messing everything up?

Thanks....

You can make a copy of the dictionary that you will just use for export. Open that dictionary (don't open the data entry application, just the dictionary copy) and modify the variable names in the copy of the dictionary. Then use that dictionary for export.
