Using the Reformat Tool

Post by boikgwadi »

Greetings

I created a rooster using a the first ten or so variables and then chucked away the rest meaning I took a rooster dictionary, truncated what I did not want, then edited my rooster from there. I further more re-used the same data sets as I needed the static data for household members.

The challenge is that on some slots where there is supposed to be blanks as nothing would have been entered, I get "dirty data" entered. This is causing quite a huge challenge when I export. How best can I use the Reformat Tool or any other for that matter to clean/ rid of dirty data in the rooster not captured by the clerk.

To use the Reformat Data tool, you will need to have an old copy of the dictionary. That is, you must have the dictionary that you used to collect the initial data, the dictionary that you then subsequently modified.

Once you have this dictionary, you will use it, as well as the current dictionary, as inputs to the Reformat Data tool. The tool will format your data so that the old data can be read by the new dictionary.

Please post or send the dictionary and a test data file that exhibit the problem here or send it to cspro@lists.census.gov
